Todos Santos sits on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, just over an hour from Los Cabos International Airport.
It’s a small desert town perfect for a low-key vacation, with boutique hotels, pristine beaches, and great food to tempt your taste buds. Your options for dining in Todos Santos range from open-air eateries with sandy floors to fine dining restaurants with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean or beautiful garden settings.
In this guide, I’ve compiled my pick of the best restaurants in Todos Santos together with some of the places I still need to visit. If you’re still looking for more food inspiration, you’ll find more great places to eat in El Pescadero, just 15 minutes down the road.
Oystera
Oystera is the restaurant I recommend most often to people visiting Todos Santos. It’s located in Todos Santos’ oldest sugar mill, a grand building with dramatic archways and beautiful tilework. Oystera is a more upscale option than many Todos Santos restaurants, so it’s a great spot for a celebratory meal or date night.
As you might guess, Oystera’s menu mainly focuses on the fantastic local seafood with amazing oyster platters, sashimi, and ceviche. If you’re not keen on raw fish, they also offer a selection of cooked dishes like scallop risotto or grilled catch of the day.
Oystera is also open for brunch with a menu that features great breakfasts and brunch options. There’s also a second restaurant in the same complex that focuses more on pizzas. My sons won’t eat anything from the Oystera menu, but they love these more kid-friendly options.
The restaurant sometimes features live entertainment, and there are various boutiques selling things like artwork, clothes, and jewelry. They’re fun to browse through, but the quality isn’t the best I’ve seen in Todos Santos, so you might prefer to actually make your purchases elsewhere.
Reservations are required at Oystera. The seafood restaurant is open daily for lunch, with brunch and dinner available Tuesday-Sunday, and they have a happy hour from 7-9pm on Friday.
The Green Room
The Green Room is a fun, casual restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Playa La Pastora, around a 25-minute drive north of Todos Santos. It’s set in a small villa complex that offers accommodation in bungalows, villas, and tented ocean suites.
This restaurant is a fantastic option if you want to enjoy a relaxed meal. There’s no dress code, the decor and menu names are surf-inspired, and the tables are set out on the beachfront so your kids can run around on the sand while you’re waiting for your food to arrive.
The wonderful food here ranges from gourmet fish tacos and tostadas to lobster rolls and rib-eye steaks. There’s also a full bar serving an extensive selection of beers, wines, spirits, and handcrafted cocktails.
I highly recommend visiting the Green Room, but it’s not the most convenient location, and you’ll find other casual options closer to town.
The Green Room is open daily for lunch and dinner, and reservations are recommended.
Cien Palmas
Cien Palmas is an amazing open-air restaurant within an easy walk of the Todos Santos historical district. I visited for brunch and was totally blown away by their delicious food.
They serve a range of Oaxacan food, a regional Mexican cuisine I really love, and the menu also features kid-friendly options like smash burgers and pork tacos.
In the morning, you can enjoy fabulous brunch options with fresh juices made to order. The restaurant opens again in the early evening for dinner and cocktails.
The restaurant is in a beautiful garden setting, and you can wander around some of the gardens. However, most of the grounds are reserved for guests at the hotel, where you can enjoy an authentic Mexican experience in cozy little Casitas.
Plaza Amigos
Plaza Amigos is a food court and specialty retail marketplace in Todos Santos that’s the perfect place for relaxed dining. Around 7 different food vendors sell a range of traditional Mexican dishes, as well as smoothies, ice cream, artisan coffees, and so on.
The famous taco restaurant Barracuda Cantina is worth trying for Baja-inspired food and handcrafted cocktails. However, be prepared to wait because the service is pretty slow.
While you’re at Plaza Amigos, you can also browse the marketplace and art galleries showcasing local artists and designers.
Plaza Amigos is open every day except Wednesday from breakfast until 10pm. Individual eateries may have different opening hours, so check them out before you visit.
DUM
Dum (pronounced Doom) is a fine dining restaurant in Todos Santos that regularly wins awards for its excellent food. The atmosphere here is very special, with tables set among the palm trees and live jazz music in the background, making it perfect for outdoor dining on a romantic date night or special celebration.
Chef Aurelien Legeay, a Maitres Cuisinier, creates a five-course tasting menu of gastronomic delights that changes with the seasons, so you know the current menu will always offer the freshest produce. Each dish is a beautiful work of art that could feature in the Michelin guide, and you’re sure to enjoy a memorable meal here.
There’s also a lunch menu with exciting choices, such as St Peter’s lamb curry with crispy jasmine rice or a house burger made with wagyu beef.
Dum is probably the most upscale restaurant in Todos Santos, and reservations are a must. The opening hours vary seasonally, so check before you travel.
Jazamango
Jazamango is another upscale restaurant in Todos Santos, and is often considered one of the best restaurants in the Cabo area. The restaurant was created by Javier Plascencia, a renowned Mexican chef passionate about promoting the Baja region.
Jazamango is a true farm-to-table restaurant located on a working organic farm, and its seasonal menu features local ingredients and organic produce grown right on the premises.
You might see options like grilled octopus, beef cheek and short rib stew, and fish tostada alongside exciting daily specials. Portion sizes are very generous, so even ordering from the appetizers might be enough for you.
The restaurant also offers more kid-friendly options like pizza and grilled catch of the day.
Jazamango is open for lunch and dinner every day except Tuesday. Its excellent food makes this Todos Santos restaurant incredibly popular, so reservations are highly recommended.
Shakti Bowl
Shakti Bowl is the perfect spot when you want something quick, healthy, and delicious to eat. It’s based on Buddha Bowls, and you can build your own custom bowl of fresh and organic ingredients, including base grains, proteins, veggies, and dressings or sauces.
This ensures everyone can choose exactly what they want to eat, and my kids really enjoyed making their own bowls. The restaurant also opens for breakfast or brunch with a range of breakfast bowls including a Burrito Bowl and a Chilaquiles Bowl.
Shakti Bowl has recently moved from the Las Tunas neighborhood in the north of the town to a more convenient location in downtown Todos Santos. It’s open daily from 8am, and reservations are not required.Â
El Burguer Shack
If you love a great burger, you definitely need to visit El Burguer Shack in Todos Santos.
They serve smash-style burgers with melting cheese, caramelized onions, and their own special Shack sauce in an amazing soft bun. The skinny fries are crispy, the milkshakes are legendary, and you can even enjoy your burger while watching the game on TV.
My dad and both my sons say this is one of the best burgers they’ve ever had, so it comes highly recommended!
El Burguer Shack has locations open daily in El Pescadero and Todos Santos. It’s a super casual joint, so there’s no need to book ahead.
Poke Loko
Poke Loco is in the Las Tunas neighborhood of Todos Santos, north of the Centro. Like many Todos Santos eateries, it’s an open air restaurant with a sand/dirt floor, but there’s some shelter from the sea breeze.
The menu at Poke Loko isn’t massive, but the food is fantastic. You can get fantastic Hawaiian poke bowls, salads, and sashimi, which are great healthy fare, but they’re also really good with a beer. If you don’t fancy a poke bowl, the menu also has options like pizza or fish and chips, which are pretty kid-friendly.
The ambience is really cool here too, with live music performances in the evenings.
Poke Logo is open Tuesday-Saturday. It gets pretty busy, so I’d definitely recommend reservations, especially if you’re visiting Todos Santos in the high season.
La Esquina
I haven’t eaten at La Esquina, but I’ve heard good things about it, and it’s on my list to visit. This Todos Santos restaurant serves a range of healthy comfort foods and sources many of their ingredients from local farmers, bakeries, and other producers.
Menu items include breakfast favorites like huevos rancheros and chilaquiles, burritos and bowls, and sandwiches made with fresh bread. You can quench your thirst with organic coffee, fresh juices, local kombucha, and craft beer on tap.
La Esquina also hosts community events, including a weekly farmer’s market and live performances by local musicians.
Benno at the Hotel San Cristóbal
Benno is the hotel restaurant at the Hotel San Cristobal in southern Todos Santos. It’s located on the beachfront with breathtaking views of the Baja coast and a stunning sunset in the evenings.
The menu focuses on local seafood caught by local fishermen and other fresh produce from the local area, mixing modern Mexican cuisine and Mediterranean flavors with a Baja twist. Expect to see plenty of fresh seafood such as grilled shrimp and fish in mole verde, along with ceviche, local cheeses, and pasta made in-house.
There’s also an excellent drinks list featuring sustainable and organic wines, small-batch mezcal and tequila, and a selection of Mexican beers.
Benno is open daily, serving breakfast/brunch and dinner to hotel guests and non-resident diners.
La Confianza
La Confianza is a little wine bar in Todos Santos that also serves coffee, cocktails, and sharing plates. It has a lovely vibe, perfect for a quick happy hour drink with friends, but with a bar menu that offers enough options for dinner.
The outdoor courtyard is a gorgeous place to try one of La Confianza’s range of natural wines, accompanied by dishes like octopus carpaccio, crab tostada, local oysters, and truffle fries. Live music performances by local artists help create a laid-back ambiance.
I came here with friends and we loved the shared-plate concept, which encouraged us to order basically everything on the menu and share it around. We enjoyed both the food and the drinks.
La Confianza is open in the evenings from Thursday to Saturday and also opens for brunch on Sundays. They don’t accept reservations, and children are not allowed in this restaurant.
Ristorante Tre Galline
Ristorante Tre Galline is Italian-owned and serves delicious authentic Italian food. It’s been open since 2005 but recently moved to a new location in the center of town.
This is definitely one of the best places to eat in Todos Santos, with a menu featuring super fresh fish, chicken, and steak, house-made pasta, and mouthwatering desserts. There’s a fantastic wine list featuring both Italian and Baja wines, and the wait staff are great at recommending a wine to accompany your meal.
Tre Galline is open daily for dinner and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are required, and there are only a few tables inside, so book early if you want to sit indoors.
Tips for Dining in Todos Santos
Here are a few things to remember when you’re eating out in the town of Todos Santos.
Opening times
Restaurants in Todos Santos generally close earlier than restaurants in the US, so you should expect to eat in the early evening.
Most restaurants in Todos Santos run on Baja hours, so they’ll also close one or two days each week. I’ve included the current opening times for each restaurant, but check ahead before you set out.
Reservations
Some Todos Santos restaurants require reservations, but many don’t. If you’re visiting one of the more upscale restaurants like Oystera, Jazamango, or Dum, you’ll probably need a reservation. Casual local joints like Shakti Bowl or El Burguer Shack don’t need reservations.
Bear in mind that the most popular restaurants get busy, especially if you’re visiting Baja California Sur in the high season. Booking ahead will help you avoid disappointment.
Payment methods
One final important note: most Todos Santos restaurants take credit and debit cards, but a few are cash only. Check with the restaurant before you go, and take a little cash along with you, just to be sure.
Wrap up
As you can see, Todos Santos has many amazing restaurants serving great food, whether you want a quick bite at lunchtime or a special date night meal in a fine dining restaurant.
With even more great places to eat in El Pescadero, you’ll be spoiled for choice in this area of the Baja California peninsula.
