Modern Elegance in DTLA: Conrad Los Angeles Review

If you’re looking for the perfect downtown Los Angeles hotel for your next visit to the City of Angels, look no further than the Conrad Los Angeles.

I stayed at this DTLA hotel in March 2025 when I was visiting LA with my husband to watch a Dodgers game. We wanted a luxury hotel within easy reach of the stadium, and the Conrad Los Angeles fitted the bill perfectly.

This elegant hotel has modern rooms and suites, a stunning rooftop terrace with an infinity pool, and high-quality dining options. It’s also ideally located near many of LA’s cultural and entertainment venues.

Read on to discover why we loved staying at the Conrad Los Angeles, and why I recommend it for your next LA trip. I paid for this stay and it was not sponsored or done in conjunction with the hotel or Hilton.

Where is the Conrad Los Angeles?

The Conrad Los Angeles is located inside the Grand LA complex, a prime location in downtown Los Angeles. It’s just across the road from the Walt Disney Concert Hall and around the corner from Gloria Molina Grand Park.

The hotel is conveniently located within easy reach of some of the top entertainment venues in the City of Angels, including Crypto.com Arena and Dodger Stadium. I specifically chose it because I was looking for the best luxury hotel near Dodger Stadium.

The Grand Avenue Arts Corridor is downtown Los Angeles’s newest cultural corridor. You can explore the Broad Museum’s collection of contemporary art or catch a performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

You’re also within walking distance of other top LA locations like Little Tokyo’s sushi and ramen restaurants and the Angels Flight® Railway that runs between Hill Street and Grand Avenue on Bunker Hill.

I questioned the safety of DTLA when I made this booking, as it is close to the infamous Skid Row and downtown has not historically been known as a safe destination. However, I found clean streets, vibrant nightlife, and no safety concerns at all. There has been a lot of investment in the area and if I were to visit again, I would not be concerned for my safety.

Arriving at the Conrad Los Angeles

The Conrad Los Angeles is around a 40-minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and the FlyAway Bus stops at nearby Union Station. Civic Center/Grand Park Metro station is just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, but your walk will take you uphill along West 1st St.

Finding the hotel’s Grand Avenue entrance can take a minute, as it’s located inside the Grand LA complex. This new retail, residential, and hotel complex was the vision of legendary architect Frank Gehry, and its dramatic façade is one of the most eye-catching designs in downtown LA.

Once inside the modern building, a concierge will show you over to the elevator that takes you to the 10th-floor lobby. Our check-in went very smoothly, and the friendly staff behind the front desk arranged to transport our luggage up to our suite while we explored the lobby area.

While older Conrad properties tend to feature quite classic luxury décor, the Conrad Los Angeles is a new property with a more modern, minimalist design. London-based Tara Bernerd created the interior design at the Conrad Los Angeles, and the spacious lobby area has a mid-century modern vibe. There are plenty of desks and couches for guests to work or enjoy the complimentary tea and coffee service.

The lobby is clearly a social space, not just somewhere to pass through quickly after check-in. However, this also means it can get quite noisy in the evenings.

A Suite at the Conrad Los Angeles

The living room in a suite at the Conrad Los Angeles hotel, California.

The Conrad Los Angeles occupies 25 floors of the Grand LA complex, and its 305 luxury rooms and suites are located on the floors above the 10th-floor lobby. Each features floor-to-ceiling windows with city views over DTLA, views of Grand Avenue, or dramatic views over the San Gabriel Mountains.

The bold originality of Tara Bernerd’s design continues in the mid-century modern décor, warm earth tones, and pale oak floors of the luxurious rooms and suites.

We stayed in a Premium Mountain View Suite, which enjoyed a prime view over the nearby Dodgers Stadium. You could even catch the firework display when the home team wins!

A Premium Mountain View Suite

Our spacious 700 sq. ft. suite featured a king-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a separate living area.

The comfortable bed was dressed with luxurious 400-thread-count sheets and blackout curtains. Combined with digital room controls that make changing your light settings and A/C a breeze, our suite was ideal for a restful night’s sleep.

The bathroom featured a large walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead, complimentary Byredo Mojave Ghost amenities, fluffy bathrobes, and slippers.

The living room had a seating area with sofa and armchair, a dining table seating four people, and a separate workstation area. Other necessities like the ironing board and umbrellas were hidden from view in the closet.

All Conrad Los Angeles rooms and suites have the conveniences you’d expect in a luxury hotel, including large flat-screen TVs with premium cable channels and on-demand movies, Nespresso coffee makers, and minibars stocked with gourmet snacks.

Just a word of warning: the minibar will charge you automatically when you remove items from the shelf. It’s pretty sensitive, so if you use the fridge to store your own snacks and drinks, check your bill to ensure you don’t get accidentally charged for items you didn’t actually take.

We had some hiccups with the minibar that were never fully addressed. When exploring the room, I found that a drink in the minibar was open and partially consumed by a previous guest. I called down to the front desk to alert them of the issue so that we were not charged for the drink, and they told me that we would not be charged as long as they drink was not removed from the minibar, thus triggering their usage monitoring system.

I asked if it could be removed and replaced during the next room cleaning, but it never was removed. There was also a dirty glass in the minibar area from a previous guest that was never replaced during our stay.

This did not leave me feeling good about the housekeeping services, but overall, our Mountain View suite provided a high standard of comfort and amenities.

Facilities at the Conrad Los Angeles

The pool at the Conrad Los Angeles hotel, California.

The Conrad Los Angeles’ excellent facilities include a luxury spa, rooftop pool, and gym.

The 9th-floor spa offers an extensive range of luxury facials, massages, and other treatments. There are well-stocked locker rooms with infrared saunas, and the spa’s boutique sells premium beauty products from brands like Soleil Toujours and Esker.

Cardio equipment in the gym at the Conrad Los Angeles hotel, California.

The 24-hour fitness center is located on the 10th floor, but the equipment is pretty minimal compared to other hotel gyms.

There are a few cardio machines, a cable resistance machine, and a small selection of free weights. It almost feels like the gym was added to use up a small space that was left over, and it isn’t really up to the standard you’d expect at a luxury brand hotel.

However, the large rooftop terrace is one of the hotel’s high points. It overlooks the curvaceous Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall and enjoys panoramic views over downtown Los Angeles. Whether you’re enjoying snacks and drinks from the bar, relaxing in a private cabana, or swimming in the gorgeous infinity pool, the rooftop terrace is a great place to hang out.

The Conrad Los Angeles is also a pet-friendly hotel, and they’ve thoughtfully provided a green space on the rooftop where you can take your pets for some exercise. That’s a nice touch you don’t always see at city center hotels.

The hotel’s $30 daily mandatory destination charge covers a range of additional amenities, including house car use, access to the Conrad Spa dry sauna, premium guest internet access, in-lobby premium coffee, and RunGo app access.

Other facilities at the hotel include charging stations for electric vehicles and bookable work rooms equipped with free Wi-Fi, desks and ergonomic chairs.

Food and Drink at the Conrad Los Angeles

The Conrad Los Angeles offers four food and beverage options. This includes the in-lobby premium coffee and tea bar, where complimentary drinks are available in the mornings.

Alto, previously known as Agua Viva, is the hotel’s rooftop bar with views over the rooftops of downtown Los Angeles. We ate there during our visit, but unfortunately, it’s now only available for private event rentals.

San Laurel

The San Laurel restaurant in the Conrad Los Angeles hotel, California.

The hotel’s main restaurant is San Laurel, which is run by acclaimed chef José Andrés and holds a mention in the acclaimed Michelin Guide.

The restaurant has a light and breezy vibe, thanks to its open façade, lush planting, and tranquil décor, and serves from breakfast time through to late evening.

Breakfast at San Laurel ranges from light pastries and yogurt bowls to heartier options like huevos “El Camino”, congee with poached eggs, or toasted country bread with a variety of toppings.

We ate lunch at San Laurel one day, and everything we had was delicious. The service was good, and we spotted a few people working on their laptops, so it’s also fairly business-friendly.

San Laurel’s dinner menu features American cuisine with a Spanish twist, showcasing local and seasonal produce and flavors.

Think Mac’ n’ Cheese prepared with Idiazábal cheese and seasonal mushrooms, or a bone-in ribeye from Blackhawk Farms, KY, served with a potato purée and jus.

Be sure to try the amazing desserts, such as the feather-light pistachio cake and the decadent Basque “burnt” cheesecake.

For an extra-special occasion, you can even book the Chef’s Table for an interactive experience hosted by chefs trained by José Andrés himself.

You can also order in-room dining from San Laurel. The menu is a little pricey, but if the quality is as good as the lunch we enjoyed in the restaurant, I’m sure it’s worth the cost.

The Beaudry Room

The Beaudry Room is Conrad Los Angeles’s stunning bar located near the hotel’s front desk area.

It has a lively vibe and offers a variety of bar bites, desserts, and an excellent selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. The Beaudry Room’s outdoor spaces are gorgeous, and you can watch the sunset over LA as you sip your cocktail next to an open fireplace.

We had cocktails in the Beaudry Room when we returned to the hotel one evening and struggled to find a seat. There seemed to be far more people in the bar than would be staying at the hotel, so it’s clearly a popular spot to “see and be seen.”

Airlight

There’s also a poolside eatery called Airlight, where you can order light bites and handcrafted cocktails to enjoy next to the rooftop infinity pool. As I visited in March, it was not open for the season yet.

Service at the Conrad Los Angeles

We received excellent service throughout our stay at the Conrad Los Angeles except for the previously mentioned housekeeping issue. Every staff member we encountered was polite and friendly. The hotel concierge is available via text 24/7, so they can answer any queries you have about the hotel’s amenities, booking the spa, or placing an order for room service.

It helps that the Conrad Los Angeles has now been open for around three years. The teething issues you might encounter at a brand-new hotel have been resolved, but it’s still new enough not to suffer any problems with aging facilities.

Booking the Conrad Los Angeles

Room rates at the Conrad Los Angeles were pretty high when the hotel first opened in July 2022, but they’ve dropped significantly since then.

Depending on when you visit, the lowest rates are around $450 per night for a Deluxe King room with city views or $1200 for the Premium Mountain View Suite we stayed in.

Conrad hotels are part of the Hilton brand, so if you’re a Hilton Honors member, booking through the Hilton website will give you access to discounted room rates.

You can also book the Conrad Los Angeles using your Hilton Honors points. The Deluxe King Room starts at around 95,000 points per night, and the Premium Mountain View Suite starts at around 408,000 points per night.

However, there are some great deals available, so it’s worth checking whether paying by cash or using points is better value before booking your room.

Booking directly through the Hilton website gives you 10 Base Points per $1 spent on bookings at the Conrad Los Angeles. Members on the Silver level or higher also receive additional perks, such as the option to earn extra points or receive a daily food and beverage credit.

You can also boost your Hilton Honors points further by signing up for the cobranded credit card and using it to pay for purchases.

The Wrap Up: Would I recommend the Conrad Los Angeles?

If you’re heading to Los Angeles to catch a concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall or watch the Dodgers in action at Dodger Stadium, the Conrad Los Angeles is an elegant destination that offers the perfect blend of luxury and location.

Ideally situated in the heart of downtown LA, its rooms and suites are stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped with high-tech amenities.

The Conrad Los Angeles is also a fairly new hotel, having opened in July 2022. This gives it a fresh, vibrant ambience, which is complemented by the stunning interior design.

Basically, the Conrad Los Angeles is an excellent choice if you want a luxury hotel within easy reach of DTLA’s top entertainment venues. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and I highly recommend it for your next LA visit.

If you’re heading to the area, don’t miss the Universal Studios Hollywood VIP experience in nearby!
