12. See a Show
The West End is home to incredible theater productions that are perfect for families. From The Lion King’s breathtaking costumes to Matilda’s charming story, there’s something for everyone.
I have seen Book of Mormon, SIX!, and Frozen in London, and can recommend all of them (though I wouldn’t take kids to Book of Mormon and only children 10+ to SIX!) Though Frozen isn’t currently showing, Hercules will open in June 2025 and promises to be an excellent show.
We took our kids to The Lion King and Aladdin on Broadway when our younger son was 6. I think this is in general the minimum age for a kid to enjoy a life performance, and even then, there was a lot of stage whispering and trying to follow along. My favorite was the Uppababy G-Luxe when my kids were in strollers. It’s an umbrella stroller but a sturdier one and does great while traveling as well as at home. If you’re prioritizing lightweight and compact, go with the Summer by Ingenuity 3Dmini. It has all the key features you need (canopy, basket underneath, padded seat) but it folds up tiny and weighs only 11 lbs.

What Not to Do with Kids in London
I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the things we’ve done that I don’t recommend. I have done these things either with my kids or alone and with an eye for whether they would be good for kids.
- Buckingham Palace – This is a tour I didn’t take until my 7th time in London, and I am glad I didn’t prioritize it earlier. It is not fun for kids and I would not bring them. There is a lot of waiting in line, looking at art, staying quiet, and not touching interesting things. This one just isn’t kid-friendly.
- Stonehenge – Stonehenge is a wonderful day trip from London and can be paired with a stop in Bath, but it’s not nearly as interesting for kids to look at the old stones as it is for adults. We left the kids at home for this one and I don’t regret it for a second.
- Westminster and Parliament – There are some interesting tours that get you behind the scenes, but I think overall, this one is better for adults.
- Churchill War Rooms – My older son was very interested in WW2 for a while, and I was so excited to take him to the War Rooms to see history up close. In reality, it was a bit boring and overwhelming for him at age 9. Older kids might enjoy this one but 9 wasn’t quite ready for it yet.
