Honest Review about The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel near London

Located in Buckinghamshire, the Langley Luxury Hotel is a dream. It is packed with history and offers an upscale feel that is hard to beat. I was truly charmed by the 5 star hotel and cannot wait to return. If you are looking for a luxury hotel in the English countryside, this review should offer all the information you need to book the trip!

History of the Langley Hotel

Built in the 18th century, the Langley Luxury Collection Hotel is the former home of the third Duke of Marlborough. Originally a 45 bedroom mansion, the home was transformed into a luxury high-end hotel and now offers 41 beautiful guest suites. It is located less than an hour from central London and a mere 20 minutes from Heathrow airport. The Langley offers expansive park-like grounds and gardens perfect for a short walk and a complete luxury feel on the inside that has definitely earned its 5 star rating.

What to Expect

The Langley Hotel is incredible, and it is definitely the best Marriott hotel near Heathrow. The grounds are clean and well-maintained, which immediately made the first impression a 10/10.

When you arrive, you will be greeted by a gorgeous courtyard with a grand fountain and a view of the entire hotel which is backed by some stunning landscape views. The front of the hotel is a site to see! Free parking is also available in their decently sized parking lot, which is always a nice feature. Then, beautiful staircases will lead you to the main entrance hall, where you can check in for your stay.

Inside, you will be surprised at how the 6-year-long renovation took the 1755 mansion into the incredibly modern and luxurious hotel it is today. With muted tones throughout, you’ll find plenty of comfortable seating with pillows and even some blankets among the high ceilings, making for the perfect spot for a lounge with some great views during your luxurious stay. The floor of the lobby features a mosaic tile design, and if you look up, you will be impressed by the artful ceiling featuring an oval skylight.

Main Staircase

Walking around, you will find beautiful sitting rooms featuring the original pillars of the mansion along with deep green walls and continued mosaic-tiled floors. The flooring surprised me everywhere I went because of the amazing detail that went into the intricate designs.

One of my favorite touches in the lobby was a pair of incredible, intricate doors from India that sit behind the front desk. From there, you can take the grand staircase up to the second floor, where guest rooms sit above the restaurants and public areas.

Accommodations

Continuing on you will find the majority of the hotel suites, however, I stayed in a separate building called the Brew House.

The main house offers classic rooms with a variety of luxury styles. Each room is different as they were originally bedrooms that were transformed into hotel rooms, and with that, I can’t offer you a full “what to expect” of each standard room, but I can give you a taste of room 57, where I stayed.

As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I was offered a one category upgraded room outside of the main building located in the Brew House, which used to be exactly that– a brew house! I was thoroughly impressed with my room. I booked a Classic room (the lowest room category) after a missed connection at Heathrow meant that I would be staying the night in London. I was offered a Brew House Deluxe guest room, a one-category upgrade.

The Brew House

The room has an overall luxe-masculine feel and features a comfortable king-sized bed with a leather loveseat at the foot. It felt a lot like a hunting lodge, with leather and plaid accents. The room included a nice sized desk and mini bar that had a mini fridge, coffee machine, and drinkware. The floor to ceiling curtains gave of a rich feel that I loved. If you are looking to get comfy in your room– they do offer a nice sized flat-screen TVs.

Room 57 in the Brew House

The bathroom inside of the room was an experience of its own. It had a freestanding tub, which made me wish I was staying longer so that I could have experienced a luxury bath inside! Aside from the freestanding tubs, the bathrooms also include a walk-in shower and vanity. The vanity was a bit small for two people. However, considering the rest of the room, that was a small price. The entirety of the bathroom also features marble tile, which gives the hotel a luxurious, upscale feel.

Amenities

When you make it outside of your hotel room, you will be impressed by the Langley Luxury Hotel’s offerings that go beyond the free wifi.

The Grounds

Starting with the grounds, I previously mentioned that they were expansive and had a natural beauty. However, we need to dive deeper into how beautiful they were. I loved the feel of being out in the park-like atmosphere.

There is a nice-sized river and there are plenty of spots to sit down and enjoy the view. There are also plenty of sidewalks throughout which I saw numerous visitors taking afternoon walks. It was very peaceful among the acres of formal gardens and made for an enjoyable outdoor space.

They have an outdoor pool; however, it was closed for the season during our stay. They also have a tennis court, but it looked like it needed to be cleaned up. That could be because we were visiting in the winter when it wasn’t being used.

There are also plenty of opportunities for the kids. There are play structures, and they even offer a kids’ program during the summer and holidays.

One surprising feature was their friendly peacock that roams the grounds. They also have pygmy goats that are available for petting, and an oversize chess set perfect for kids.

The Gym

The gym at the Langley Hotel is the best hotel gym I have ever seen. It offers everything you could want in a gym.

Here’s an overview:

  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Rowing Machines
  • Stationary Bikes
  • Free Weights
  • Leg Press
  • Benches

And so much more! I was impressed, to say the least. It felt like a normal gym that you would sign up for, but the best part was that it was free during your stay!

The Spa Lounge

The Langley is actually known for its spa facilities. Why? because it is an incredible experience for hotel guests. The spa itself is included in your stay—no extra cost! You would only have to pay for treatments such as a massage. After my stay, though, I’d say forgo the massage and take advantage of the expansive spa.

Hallway to the Spa and Wintergarden

The spa features a few things:

  • Luxury Robe and Sandals
  • Huge Changing Rooms
  • Women, Men, and Coed Spaces
  • Pools
  • Hot Tubs
  • Saunas (including a Himalayan salt sauna)
  • Steam Rooms (including an Amethyst Crystal steam room)
  • Restaurant with Coffee Bar

And more!

My experience includes only the areas where women were allowed. I cannot speak for the men’s side of things, however, the women’s was impressive to say the least.

First, you have an incredibly large dressing room with lockers, a bathroom, and plenty of vanities to get ready. There are also private dressing rooms if a public one isn’t your thing.

Then you have the Women’s Spa. This space featured a stunning, heated pool, specialty hot tub that could easily fit 10-15 people, plenty of lounge chairs (some are heated), sauna, and a steam room.

Beauty Salon

The Coed Spa featured the same things, however, the hot tub was larger and it included a Himalayan Salt Sauna, steam room with healing crystals, and a Hammam.

Hammam

The Himalayan Salt Sauna was lovely. It featured a wall of salt blocks that offer a healing experience and is definitely worth a visit.

If you plan to stay, the spa lounge features a nice eating area with a coffee bar. The coffee facilities inside of the space were a nice added bonus. The restaurant features anything from light bites to all-out meals, and with that, you can easily spend an entire day alone in the spa lounge.

Spa Dining Lounge

Overall, the spa was beautiful and I’d recommend an entire day, or at least half a day, to be spent enjoying the luxury service that is included in your stay.

Food

Once again, it was another incredible experience. The restaurants offered around the Langley Luxury Hotel are tasteful and impressive. Unfortunately however, if you don’t feel like leaving your room, they do not offer room service!

We enjoyed Cedar, Churchill Bar, and the Drawing Room. They also offer an underground wine cellar for private tastings and of course England’s traditional afternoon tea in their drawing room.

Underground wine cellar

Dining at Cedar

Cedar is their upscale restaurant. It features a gold and purple color scheme, plenty of comfortable seating, table linens, and seats with a view.

I enjoyed breakfast at Cedar, which involved a traditional English breakfast. The food wasn’t out-of-this-world amazing, but it was good and felt justified with the price.

If you have the Platinum Marriott Membership you can enjoy your breakfast for free which was a nice plus!

Dining at the Churchill Bar

Churchill Bar = 10/10. The feel, the food, the ambiance, and the seating were all lovely.

Originally the mansion’s library, the bar has since been transformed into a masculine yet luxe bar that offers seating for roughly 25 people. You are surrounded by bookcases, and the lighting is dim.

You’ll find dark, rich leather accents throughout and intimate tables. They offer a full menu for those wanting to enjoy a meal, not just bar food.

A fun feature was the cigar bar. I didn’t partake, however, my husband was impressed by their cigar collection and really enjoyed the experience. You cannot enjoy the cigar indoors but they do offer a covered patio with comfortable seating, pillows, blankets, and even space heaters right outside in order to make the overall experience a great one no matter the weather.

Dining in the Drawing Room

The Drawing Room is their tea room. Enjoy your English classic afternoon tea with a side of luxury here. You will find comfortable seating featuring pillows and plush chairs. It gives off an intimate feel. However, it is brighter than the Churchill Bar. It also offers access to an outdoor patio that overlooks the grounds.

The Verdict: Should You Stay at the Langley?

100% yes! I booked this trip at the last minute without expecting much, and I was extremely pleased with my stay. Between the history, beautiful grounds, luxury rooms, and modern amenities such as the beautiful spa pool, I will definitely be back. I highly recommend a vacation stay at the Langley. Make it a trip. Experience all it has to offer, and be sure to spend one of the days in the spa. I wish I would have done that!
